2-Peter_3-10: But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

If the trumpet sounds today where will you be? If you die without Christ you will regret it. Jesus is coming soon, repent now!

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Message

The admonition of Apostle Paul in today’s Bible reading is addressed to those he referred to as “brethren”. His first admonition is against ignorance (1 Thessalonians 4:13). Ignorance is the first weapon the devil uses to make Christians not ready for the rapture! Going by the words of Paul’s warning, other people on earth can afford to be ignorant, but we who are joint-heirs with Jesus Christ cannot afford to be. One reason why many Christians are not watchful anymore is the supposed delay in the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. They feel He may not come as expected; therefore, they have thrown godliness with contentment to the wind. Such Christians display their ignorance by not recognising the fact that although the great trump of God has not yet been sounded by the archangel, there is the individual trumpet, which the angel of death sounds when your time on earth is up.

In 2 Peter 3:1-11, Apostle Peter also attacked the spirit of ignorance in the brethren. Specifically in 2 Peter 3:8-9 he said:

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

Are you a beloved of the Lord? Then, you cannot afford to be ignorant of the fact that the two thousand and fifteen years following the Lord’s first advent is just two days and a few seconds by the Lord’s timing. One of my sons wrote an article at the end of the second millennium which he titled “Two Days Are Gone” – pointing to the truth in Peter’s epistle above. We must do everything within the available grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship (the helpful partnership) of the Holy Spirit to be ready for the rapture. To remain rapturable, you need to take very seriously the words of Romans 12:1-2:

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Action Point:

Carry out a personal assessment of your readiness for the return of our Lord.

Text: 1 Corinthians 15:50-53

INTRODUCTION:

Our last meeting revealed the meaning of the word RAPTURE. We also discover events surrounding the rapture as regards timing and other issues. Now, we will look at the reasons, the qualification as well fallacies surrounding the rapture.

May the good LORD teach our hearts and bless our lives with His truth by His Spirit, in Jesus Christ Name, Amen!

WHY WILL THE RAPTURE TAKE PLACE?

To resurrect the just of all ages from among the dead – 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17; Psalms 50:1-6.
To take the saints out of the world before the tribulation – Luke 21:34-36; 2 Thessalonians 2:7-8; 1 Thessalonians 1:10.
That our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ might present to Himself a Church without spots or wrinkles – Ephesians 5:27; John 14:1-3.
To transform or change the bodies of all faithful saints from mortality to immortality – Philippians 3:20-21; 1 Corinthians 15:21-23, 42-44, 51-58.
To assemble the saints at the marriage supper of the Lamb – Revelations 19:1-10.
To allow the revelation of the anti-christ- 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8.
To present The saints to God The Father – 1 Thessalonians 3:13; Jude 24.
To make the saints whole in body, soul and spirit – 1 John 3:2-3; Romans 8:22-23.

WHO WILL BE RAPTURED?

Those who are in Christ at His coming – John 1:12; 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Those who earnestly desire His appearance – Titus 2:13; Philippians 3:20.
Those who love the Lord supremely – Philippians 3:7-10; John 21:15-17; John 14:15; Mark 16:15-18; Luke 19:12-13.
Those whose citizenship is in Heaven – Philippians 3:20-21; Ephesians 2:19.
Those who will live holy even as He is holy – 1 Peter 1:16; Hebrews 12:14; 1 John 3:1-3

CONCLUSION

Let us be sober in watchfulness, always fellowshipping together and keeping the unity of the faith in the bond of peace – 1 Thessalonians 5:6; Hebrews 10:25; Ephesians 4:3

Text: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

INTRODUCTION:

The second coming of Christ prophesied by Daniel in Daniel 7:13 is a sound biblical fact. This return shall be in two stages. The first, “being like a thief in the night” to receive unto Himself His church. This is popularly called The Rapture.

May the Holy Spirit Himself guide us into all truth, in Jesus Christ Name, Amen!

WHAT IS THE RAPTURE?

The word, Rapture, is not found anywhere in the Bible although it is used describe this great upcoming and memorable event. The rapture is the sudden catching up or sudden disappearance of holy and faithful saints from the earth to meet with our LORD and Saviour in the air. It is also referred to as the translation or translocation of believers – 1 Thess. 4:16-17; 1 Cor. 15:51-58. Examples of such translation in the Old Testament are; Enoch Genesis 5:22-24; Hebrews 11:5 and Elijah – 2 Kings 2:11. It shall be as sudden as the twinkling of an eye – 1 Corinthians 15:52.

WHEN WILL THE RAPTURE TAKE PLACE?

The exact timing of the occurrence of the rapture is not known Matthew 24:42, 44; Matthew 25:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:6. We, however, know that it shall precede the tribulation – 1 Thessalonians 1:10, 5:9; 2 Thessalonians 2:12.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT THE RAPTURE?

The following are to be expected at the rapture:

The trumpet of God shall sound – 1 Corinthians 15:52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16.
The dead in Christ shall rise first – John 5:25; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; 1 Corinthians 15:23.
Saints which are alive shall be “caught up” to meet our LORD in the air – 1 Thessalonians 4:17; 1 Corinthians 15:51.
The dead in Christ and saints who are left shall have glorified or immortal bodies and live forever – 1 Corinthians 15:52; Philippians 3:20-21; Colossians 3:4; 1 John 3:2.
There shall be extraordinary chaos here on earth – 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3; Matthew 24:40-41.

HOW WILL IT HAPPEN?

It shall happen suddenly – 1 Corinthians 15:52; 1 Thessalonians 5:3; Matthew 24:36-41.
The power of God shall make all saints’ bodies immortal – Philippians 3:21.
Sudden chaos.

CONCLUSION:

The greatest calamity that could befall anyone who claims to be a believer is to be left behind after the rapture. Our Lord Jesus Christ warned us to be alert and ready! Mark 13:32-37.

Rapture

Rapture

Behold He comes with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they
also which pierced him: and all kindred of the earth shall wail
because of him. Even so! Amen!
Revelation 1:7.

The word rapture is not in scripture, but the meaning of the term is
clearly there-it means “taken up.” There are seven raptures in the
Scripture:
Enos was taken up. (Genesis 5:21-23 and Hebrews 11:5-6)
Elijah was taken up. (2 Kings 2:1, 11)
The Lord Jesus was taken up. This passage tells you that He is
coming back the same way He was taken up. (Acts 1:9-11)

The true church will be taken up at the end of what we call the
church age before the seven-year period of tribulation. (1
Thessalonians 4:13-18)
There will be a mid-tribulation rapture of those who did not go up
in the first rapture of the church but were converted by the
preaching of 144,000 converted male Jewish evangelists. (Revelation
7:9-17)
The 144,000 Jewish evangelists will be raptured. (Revelation
14:1-5)
Two witnesses will be taken up right before the return of the Lord
Jesus Christ to the earth. (Revelation 11:1-12)
Believer, Jesus will return the same way He was taken up! You want to
be ready to meet Him in the air!

Prayer for Today

Dear Heavenly Father, I am looking for Your return! Through the power of the Holy Spirit and
the blood of Your Son, I am watching and waiting and ready to go! In
Jesus Christ Name! Amen!
